Piero Incisa della Rochetta comes from a pioneering family; his grandfather is the founder of Tenuta San Guido and creator of arguably Italy’s most famous Super Tuscan, Sassicaia. In 2003 Piero established his own groundbreaking winery in windswept Rio Negro Valley in northern Patagonia. Piero’s bold move was inspired by a magnificent Pinot Noir he tasted in New York which came from an ancient Argentinian vineyard planted in 1932.
Convinced of the exceptional potential of the region, Piero managed to purchase that same plot and soon added additional parcels of vines planted in 1955 and 1967. Today the winery is known for its elegant old vine Pinots as well as Chardonnay thanks to a partnership with renowned Burgundian winemaker Jean-Marc Roulot. Together they grafted Chardonnay vines onto 40-year old Merlot vines which are planted on a beautiful calcareous plot ideally suited to the white variety.
Reminiscent of finest white Burgundy, this Chardonnay is remarkably complex and nuanced with a noticeable minerality and bright orchard and citrus fruit notes that linger long on the palate. It’s full-bodied and generous with a bright streak of acidity that brings harmony and balance on the finish. Ideal to keep in the cellar for a few more years or enjoy now with roast chicken, tuna or salmon steaks, or creamy pasta dishes.
Very good service, fast and reliable.
