Famed in Italy as the very first producer of elegant Franciacorta sparkling wines, Berlucchi is set in the rolling foothills of the Alps with over 500 acres of vineyards that are all farmed organically. The dream of making sparkling wine here was born in the 1950s when local landowner Guido Berlucchi started looking for a winemaker to help improve his family’s wines. He met young winemaker Franco Ziliani and the duo soon realised the potential of the family estate for producing top quality sparkling wines.

Guido and Franco produced their first sparkling wine in the 1961 vintage and since then the company has gone on to produce a whole range of sparkling wines which are sold all over the world. This fine example pays homage to the very first Franciacorta and is composed purely of Chardonnay grapes sourced from the estate’s best vineyards.

Once in the winery the fruit is pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. In the spring the blend is assembled and the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle. It is then left to age on the lees in the cellar for 24 months. The result is a refined and elegant expression of Franciacorta with plenty of fragrant apricot, peach and lemon zest notes. On the palate there is a bright streak of acidity, creamy texture and a remarkably pure and clean finish.
