Beautiful deep ruby in colour, the intense nose releases blackberry, raspberry, ripe plum, cranberry and hints of chocolate, vanilla and a slight earthy note. The palate delivers a complex mix of ripe red and black fruit, exotic spice but also a farm yard earthiness that works very well with the oak infused vanilla notes. This medium bodied wine displays ripe tannins that are well integrated with the bright acidity and layers of flavour garnered from the ripe fruit. A very well balanced wine. The finish is medium in length and ends with a subtle chocolate note.
Great to drink on its own or even better when paired with salmon, pork, pasta, beef, or ham.
The Belle Glos name comes from the winemaker, Joseph Wagner, who named it in honour of his grandmother Lorna Belle Glos Wagner who was the co-founder of Caymus. Las Alturas means “the heights” which fits very well as the vineyard is at one of the highest points in the area.
The grapes were harvested early morning while still cool. Hand sorted and de-stemmed prior to a cold maceration in stainless steel tanks that can last up to 2 weeks. Only the free run juice is used which ensures top quality, superb wines. This juice was barrelled in French oak of which 60% was new, for 9 months prior to bottling.
Very good service, fast and reliable.
