Located in Rutherford, California, Beaulieu Vineyard is one of the longest-established wineries in the United States. Founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour, the company has been producing wine for more than a century, remaining in production even during Prohibition thanks to a contract to supply wine to churches. Beaulieu owns vineyards located at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains where Bordeaux varieties are grown, and other vineyards in Saint Helena, Calistoga, and Carneros planted with other varieties such as Pinot Gris, Marsanne and Roussanne, Touriga Nacional and Sangiovese. The wine is a mostly Cabernet Sauvignon blend, with small additions of Petite Sirah and Cabernet Franc. The finished wine is aged for 18 months in a mix of French, American and European oak.
It is a concentrated and balanced wine, with an intense and broad aromatic profile. The nose reveals aromas of currants and cherries, spices, notes of tobacco, and fresh herbs. On the palate, it is energetic and rich, round and soft. It has a medium-to-full body. The tannins are elegant and well-integrated. The finish is fresh and long and recalls hints of sweet spices. It is the ideal wine with grilled red meat or game.
