Founded approximately 250 years ago in Horra, near Burgos, in the Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Balbas is one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in the area and has also been one of the promoters for the creation of the denomination of origin of this wine region. The company is now managed by the sixth generation of the Balbas family and continues to produce iconic wines by combining tradition and technological innovation.

Produced only in the best vintages, the Ancestral wine of Bodegas Balbas is a 100% Tempranillo of great elegance. The grapes are selected and harvested manually from the El Castillo estate. The vinification takes place without maceration and faithfully follows the ancient traditions of the first wine made by the family. The wine is then aged for 24 months in French oak foudres, to then rest for another 24 months in the bottle.

Bodegas Balbas Ancestral is a wine with an elegant and complex aromatic profile with fruity notes of strawberry and raspberry, spicy hints of cloves and nutmeg, and some mineral nuances on the finish. On the palate, it is extremely balanced and refined with a good concentration of flavors and velvety tannins. The finish is long and fresh. It is the perfect wine to pair with red meat stews and medium-aged cheeses.
