Jean Bouchard is a name that spans generations and embodies the spirit of the Burgundy region. Founded in the 19th century, Jean Bouchard was acquired by Albert Bichot winery in 1955, and since then, the Bichot family have paved the way for the winery's unmitigated success.
The winery has stocks in some of Burgundy’s greatest vineyards, including the Premier Cru “Vaillons”, in the heart of Chablis. Grown on clayish, calcareous soil, the grapes from “Vaillons” are known for producing particularly complex and expressive wines. This offering from the Bichot family is no exception - it is a golden Burgundian jewel, carefully crafted from 100% Chardonnay.
It opens with a deep well of aromas, exhibiting typical Chablis notes of brine, wet stone and vegetation. These are coupled with hints of lemon, lime and white flowers. You will discover a pleasant roundness on the palate, supported by a wiry acidity. The wine has been aged in oak, so there are notes of honey and buttered toast, complemented by classic flavours of lemon, lime, orange peel and apple. It’s an easy drinker and would serve as an excellent introduction to one of Chablis’ finest Premier Crus. You can enjoy it with some seafood, such as scallops, or some vegetarian curries - this wine can also entertain some spice.
