Born in Monção in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region, Anselmo Mendes fell in love with the Alvarinho grape at an early age and began making his first wines from the variety in 1988. Over the years he has consulted for many of Portugal’s top wineries and he also makes his own wines in Minho close to the border with Spain. Anselmo uses his decades of experience of working with Alvarinho to create a range of styles from crisp, light-bodied expressions to richer wines which are fermented and aged in oak barrels.
This premium Alvarinho is sourced from a prime single vineyard plot that produces particularly pure and aromatic grapes. Once in the winery the grapes are destemmed and softly pressed. The must is then fermented in new 400 litre French oak barrels followed by 9 months of ageing with battonage or stirring of the lees.
Hints of tropical fruit, citrus zest, toasted almonds and woodsmoke define the nose while on the palate there is a medium body, smooth, creamy texture and gentle tannins. The bold flavour profile and well-built structure make this a great wine to cellar for a few more years or enjoy now with creamy fish or chicken dishes or cheeses.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
