Founded and operated by Courtney Benham, owner of the historic Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery, in the Russian River Valley, the Angeline label produces premium, affordable California wines by sourcing grapes from a network of premium growers in the state.
The Pinot Noir grapes for this Reserve wine are selected and harvested by hand in the hilly vineyards of Mendocino County. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for a duration of between 8 and 12 days. The finished wine is then aged for 9 months in French oak barrels (30% new).
The wine shows a clear ruby color with crimson tones. On the nose, it reveals a broad and complex aromatic profile with a varied bouquet of red and wild berries (blackberry, raspberry, cherry, blueberry) and then spices, tea, and hibiscus flowers. On the palate, it is intense and concentrated, juicy and soft. The tannins are velvety and the acidity is well-balanced. It is a fruity and elegant wine with some mineral hints and a long and persistent finish that recalls light spicy notes. Excellent with pork, duck, and medium-aged cheeses.
