Located in Santa Marta De Penaguião, in the prestigious Douro Valley wine region, the Alves de Sousa winery has been producing wines for five generations. After graduating in Civil Engineering, Domingos Alves de Sousa decided to dedicate himself to the family business in 1987, carrying out various consolidation and renovation works on the vineyards. Awarded in 1999 and 2006 as Producer of the Year by the Revista de Vinhos, the company produces wines obtained only from its grapes, exploiting the quality and uniqueness of the Douro terroirs.

Quinta da Gaivosa Tinto is a blend of the indigenous Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, and Touriga Nacional grapes from vineyards over 60 years old. After a short fermentation on the skins and vinification, the finished wine is aged for 6 months in new oak barrels and then rests another 12 months in the bottle before being released onto the market.

The wine has a dense and brilliant color with ruby-red tones. On the nose, it reveals an intense aromatic profile of red fruits and hints of baking spices. On the palate, it is full and elegant, soft and complex. The tannins are dense and well-integrated. The finish is long and persistent and recalls elegant fruity notes. It is the perfect wine for roast meat and mature cheeses.
