The venerable Maison Albert Bichot creates an incredible range of wine in the heart of Burgundy. It has been nestled among the rolling landscape since 1831 when Bernard Bichot began selling wine under his family name. Six generations later, Albéric Bichot has taken the winery into the modern era, undergoing the transition to organic viticulture while paying homage to the family’s rich past.
In addition to premium vineyards across the Côte-d'Or, Albert Bichot also cultivates grapes in sections of Beaujolais. The “Selection Parcellaire” is composed of delicious Gamay grapes, chosen from the Beaujolais-Villages AOC.
This wine is a wonderful representation of Beaujolais, bursting with red fruits and red flowers, strawberry, raspberry and rose, with hints of wild blackberry. It’s smooth drinking wine, soft and elegant in the mouth, with considerable tannins and high acidity. Look for notes of cherry, strawberry and fruitcake, with complementary flavours of chocolate, tobacco, baking spice, and oak. This is an approachable wine for beginners and a fantastic introduction to Maison Albert Bichot. Its medium body makes it suitable for a wide variety of occasions, from sipping on a summer evening to pairing it with a hearty dinner. Consider matching it with cold meats like carpaccio, or something slightly spicier such as chorizo.
