Montsant Blends
Zerran Tinto 2014
Drink now through to 2022. No need to decant before serving.
This generous red from the Montsant wine region in northeastern Spain exudes aromas of wild herbs, dark cherries and blackberries, while the palate offers juicy blueberry, kirsch and plum flavours and a smoky minerality which linger long on the tongue. Silky smooth in the mouth, the fine tannins and generous medium body are nicely balanced by a vigorous freshness which makes this an excellent wine to pair with red meat dishes.
Producer Jorge Ordonez makes this wine from a modest 4 hectare plot of old vines in the town of Capçanes which are planted on distinctive slate soils very similar to those found in the prestigious Priorat region next door. Here the stony conditions force the vines to dig deep for water, thus creating richly textured wines with incredibly concentrated flavours and aromas.
When harvest time comes the grape pickers make several manual passes through the vineyard to ensure the Syrah, Carinena and Garnacha grapes that go into this wine are picked at optimum ripeness and quality. After vinification in the winery the wine is aged in French oak barrels for a total of 16 months before bottling and release to the market.
