Corvina
Zeni Cruino Rosso Veronese 2019
Cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant before serving.
This classic Veronese red is the handiwork of the Zeni family who have been making wines in the hills of Bardolino above Lake Garda since 1870. The estate today is run by siblings Fausto, Elena and Federica, who use their family’s deep roots in the area to source top quality fruit to supplement that grown on their 25 hectares of estate vines. The Corvina Grossa fruit used in this vibrant red is sourced from hilly vineyards planted on a mixture of volcanic and morainic soils left by ancient glaciers in the region.
The fruit is all carefully harvested by hand to maximise quality and left to dry out so the flavours and sugars become more concentrated. The grapes are then fermented and macerated for several weeks and the young wine ages in French oak barrels for 10-18 months before bottling depending on the character of the vintage.
The result is a powerful yet well-balanced red that’s bursitng with opulent dark berries, plums and cherry notes over deeper undertones of dried fruit, dark chocolate, spice and woodsmoke. The intensity and firm tannins make this a great wine to keep in the cellar for a few more years or enjoy now alongside charcuterie, a ribeye steak, barbecued meats, or hearty tomato-based pasta dishes.
