Chateauneuf du Pape
Vignobles Mayard Domaine du Pere Pape Chateauneuf du Pape 2019
Drink it now or cellar for 20 years. It is recommended to decant for half an hour.
Founded by Gratien Mayard in the 19th century, the Vignoble Mayard is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and has been a family business for 6 generations. The entire estate includes about thirty plots spread over different terroirs. To enhance these very rich terroirs, the Mayard family has decided to devote to organic farming and offers several cuvées in Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes du Rhône.
The Domaine du Pere Pape Chateauneuf du Pape is a wonderful blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. The grapes are sourced from soils of sand and red clay covered with the peculiar Rhone rolled pebbles (locally called 'galets roulés'). The resulting wine is produced in homage to Gratien Mayard, ancestor of the current producers and founder of the winery.
On the nose, the wine shows a beautiful intensity. The aromas of black fruit jam, spices, and cocoa brought by Syrah give this cuvée a great complexity. On the palate, the wine is round and warm and it reveals dense and elegant tannins, with typical peppery notes on the finish. It is already appreciable now, but with a few years in the cellar, it can develop its personality to the fullest.
It is a wine made to be paired with a nice piece of meat, a plate with sauce, or a cheese platter!
