Striking ruby in colour with brick red hints towards the edge of the glass. Intense, dark cherry and earthy bouquet with subtle, layered hints of spice, licorice and tobacco. This is a wine whose nose immediately transports you to the traditional vineyards in Italy. An immensely flavourful palate yet it is brighter and more complex than the nose seems to suggest. Layers of dried, dark fruit flavours with tobacco accents and citrus undertones envelop the palate and dance harmoniously to a sophisticated finish. Rich minerality and earthy qualities lend to this soulful, sophisticated wine. Ideally drink between (years): 2015-2030
The Sangiovese varietal from the vineyards of Colombaiolo and Fraschetta known as Brunello (“little dark one” in translation, referring to the size and darkness of the grape) has benefited from the traditional winemaking processes, extended maceration and a range of barriques. Still, this wine’s expression leans towards a more modern Brunello.
Firm, sophisticated tannins with silky smooth texture. A well-balanced, powerful wine that is softened by its fresh liveliness. It is bold yet not dense--a combination that is rare to find. This offering pairs exceptionally well with a distinctly wide variety of foods. Serve with Pasta, rich red meat dishes, lamb, fatty fish, southern Italian meals, or for any occasion that you deserves an element of luxury and depth. Serve at 18 degrees celsius.
Decant for a couple of hours, but depending on how long you’ve waited to savour this beauty in the cellar, there’s no need to be too patient before partaking. This vintage is one not to miss and, in keeping with the reputation of Brunello di Montalcino as delivering collectable wines, will age very nicely and add welcome, classic diversity in your collection.
