This 100% Sangiovese wine is packed with aromas of sour cherry, raspberry jam, violet and vanilla. As a Chianti Classico Riserva, it is essentially the pinnacle of red wine from the Chianti region, aged in oak for up to 24 months, before 6 months of further ageing in the bottle. Perfect for lovers of bold yet sophisticated Italian red wine.

Vallepicciola is one of Tuscany’s largest wineries, comprising 107 hectares of estate-owned vineyards, and a state-of-the-art cellar that spans 6000 square meters. You can discover it in the region of Pievasciata, nestled among the green, rolling hills that put a picture to the spirit of Tuscany. The Sangiovese grapes for this wine were harvested from around Pievasciata and Castelnuovo Berardenga, where the vines grow on fertile limestone-clay soils.

It is a vivid ruby colour in the glass, with purple hues. Look for flavours of black cherry, raspberry, vanilla and balsamic, which evolve into a long finish with a deeply savoury aftertaste. It is round and silky in the mouth, with soft tannins and juicy acidity. Chianti Classico Reserva will be best when served at room temperature, alongside savoury dishes. Consider pairing it with meat sauce, wild boar, or aged cheese.
