The family-run Tunella winery in the eastern hills of Friuli have built a stellar reputation for their crisp and elegant wines over the last few decades. The estate was originally founded by local farmer Min Zorzettig, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that his children and grandchildren totally renovated the winery and began to focus on premium production with a strong focus on the stunning local terroir.

Their vines are planted on hillside terraces which act as a suntrap and are cooled in the evenings by breezes from the nearby Adriatic Sea. The soils here are known locally as “ponca”, a rare mixture of marl and sandstone which helps to create white wines with remarkable elegance and fragrance.

This white is a complex blend of Friulano and Ribolla Gialla which are pressed and fermented slowly in 30 litre Slavonian oak casks. The wine is left to mature on the lees over the winter and bottled when the family deem it ready for release. Acacia blossom, vanilla, and hints of ripe stone fruit immediately burst out of the glass, while the first sip reveals a medium body, well-rounded texture and lingering tropical fruit flavours.
