Travaglini winery has been been the heart and soul of Gattinara since the 1920s, when Clemente Travaglini established a winery in the centre of the city. Nowadays it is a family winery run by its fourth and fifth generations, who combine modern wine-making techniques with a tradition of excellence.
Gattinara is a picturesque region, home to rolling hills coated in Nebbiolo vineyards. It is a terroir that is heavily influenced by the Alps. The mountain range provides a cool mountain breeze that gives freshness to the region's stunning wines. Gattinara is the only region in Piedmont, and the world, where Nebbiolo is grown on volcanic soil, imparting a clear mineral edge.
This Riserva is surprisingly light in the glass. It is an almost transparent ruby red, with orange hues. The wine’s real power reveals itself on the nose. Notes of liquorice, juniper and sandalwood collide with intense, fruity notes of blackberry and strawberry. The palate is fresh, with a well-defined tannic structure. Brilliant notes of black cherry and smoke mingle with earthy spices, such as clove and star anise. It has plenty of potential for long-term cellaring and further development. Consider pairing it with a mushroom dish, gamey meats, or a rich tomato pasta sauce.
