Primitivo
Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo del Salento 2019
Drink today or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant before drinking.
Since 1998, the Antinori family has been working with the grapevines and the land of Tormaresca in the “heel” of the Italian Peninsula, Solenta. Known for its vibrant winemaking heritage, the region is home to a variety of grapes native to Southern Italy as well as grapes from around the world. The wines of Tormaresca see a combination of traditional techniques with modern technology in both the vineyard and cellar. Utilizing only estate-grown fruit, the goal is to highlight the terroir of the area. Grapes are selected from old Primitivo vineyards, head-pruned bush vines, and from newer cordon-trained vineyards. This is the first Apulian wine to make the Wine Spectator's Top 100 list.
This bold Primitivo brings jammy fruit qualities with rustic, Old World elegance. Dark fruits like plum and fig waft from the glass. Sweet aromas of maple and toasted oak segway to an earthy background of coffee beans and tobacco. The palate is greeted with a plush, round mouthfeel of smooth tannin and balanced acidity. Red and dark fruits dance across the front palate as butterscotch, roasted nuts and leather slowly emerge. This wine displays restrained intensity and pairs nicely with grilled burgers, pizza, spaghetti bolognaise, hearty vegetable dishes, and cheese and charcuterie.
