Tinazzi Collezione di Famiglia Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2019

This is a deep red wine, infused with the scorching sun of the Valpolicella region. It begins with a potent nose of prunes, sour cherry, ripe red berries, and baking spice. Crafted from 90% Corvina and Corvinone, with 10% Rondinello, this is a classic Valpolicella Ripasso, double fermented with the pomace of sun-dried grapes used for Amarone.

Tinazzi is one of the great Italian wine houses, renowned for their wines from Puglia and particularly Veneto, where the winery sits on the edge of Lake Garda. However, over 50 years and three generations, the Tinazzi domain has expanded into all of Italy’s greatest wine regions. These days the family business is operated by Gian Andrea, who is joined by his two children, Giorgio and Francesca.

This Ripasso is ripe and well-formed on the palate, exhibiting flavours of raisins, red hedgerow berries, balsamic vinegar, and nutmeg. It was aged for up to a year in French and American oak before being bottled. The tannins are notable yet finely grained, adding excellent structure to this complex red. Ripasso offers a unique taste in the world of wine, and pairs well with steak, meatballs, mushrooms, or game meat.
