This small Austrian estate located on the rolling hills of Wagram overlooking the Danube river valley is run by Dani and Toni Soellner who have made their exquisite biodynamic wines here since 1995. They farm their vineyards organically and seek to showcase the beauty of the local terroir by using minimal intervention winemaking methods.

This characterful red wine is made from the Roter Veltliner grape which was brought to Alsace in the Roman era. The Soellners decided to plant this variety on their estate on the steep slopes of Berg Eisenhut where the grapes for this wine are sourced. Each autumn the family hand selects and picks only the finest fruit for this wine which is then fermented slowly in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is aged in a mixture of wooden barrels and tanks on the lees before bottling in the spring.

The nose is elegant and floral with hints of dried violets, dark berries, and earthy undertones. On the palate there’s a medium body, fine tannins and ripe fruit flavours which linger on the tongue along with spice, woodsmoke and tobacco leaf. A great wine to pair with a wide variety of dishes ranging from game and meat stews to moussaka, aubergine parmigiana, or a tomato-based pasta dish.
