Domaine Skouras was founded in 1986 in Pyrgela, southern Greece, by oenologist George Skouras, a graduate of Dijon. He was the first winemaker in Greece to assemble the native Aghiorghitiko grape (also called San Giorgio) with Cabernet Sauvignon, obtaining excellent results with the Megan Oenos wine. Today Domaine Skouras produces prestigious wines both from their own vineyards and from local producers.
The grapes for this wine (95% Chardonnay and 5% Malagousia) come from vines between 14 and 27, planted on sandy soils in Corinthia and Argolida. The vinification takes place separately. The Chardonnay is left to macerate on the skins for 6 hours and then fermented partly in steel and partly in barriques. Malagousia macerates for 24 hours, fermented in stainless steel vats, and then aged ‘sur lie’ for six months. The final blend was aged in the bottle for three months.
From the heart of the Greek Peloponnese, this Chardonnay, with the slight addition of the indigenous Malagousia grape, is a highly refreshing wine. On the nose, the citrus, tropical and floral notes create a fantastic bouquet. The alcohol is perfectly balanced and adds depth to the wine. The acidity leaves the palate clean and fresh. The wine is round with a good concentration of fruit and a pleasant aromatic character. It’s a perfect match for sea bream, lobster, or chicken served with a creamy sauce. It pairs well also with vegetarian tarts.
