Gruner Veltliner
Schloss Gobelsburg Ried Spiegel Reserve Gruner Veltliner 2020
Drink it now or cellar for five years or more. No need to decant.
Schloss Gobelsburg is a very ancient winery in the Kamptal Danube region. Here the Cistercian monks of Burgundy planted their first vineyards in 1171. Today the company, owned by the Moosbruggers since 1996, focuses on wines of typical origin of the Danube appellations.
The company is a member of the "Traditional Austrian Cellars", which establish a classification of locations in Austria and is considered a specialist for Austrian quality sparkling wine, fresh climate red wines, based on Pinot Noir, and sweet wines. The Ried Spiegel Reserve Gruner Veltliner comes from a single plot with vines that are up to 50 years old, and it’s aged in used oak barrels.
The wine has a medium golden color with silver reflections. The nose is an elegant mix of ripe apple and pear, dried apricot, hints of tropical fruit, hay, herbal spices, and chalky minerals. All this is well distributed on a slightly creamy palate with good fruity juiciness. A perfect balance between acidity and body, with a pleasant tropical finish, completes the tasting.
This is a high quality wine that makes a perfect aperitif but also goes very well with food. It is excellent with pork, cold cuts, and vegetarian preparations.
