Mario Schiopetto was a true trailblazer for fresh and modern white wines in the Friuli region. In the 1960s and 1970s he began to introduce the latest winemaking techniques and experimented on his well-sited vineyards with alternative varieties like Sauvignon Blanc as well as indigenous classics like Pinot Grigio. Today he is regarded as a key figure in the history of Italian winemaking, and his legacy is carried forward by Emilio Rotolo, the new owner of the Schiopetto estate.

The Collio Pinot Grigio is a delicate and aromatic expression of this classic Italian grape variety thanks to the top quality grapes which are grown on the estate’s prime hillside plots. To ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in optimal condition they are all harvested by hand and pressed very gently to extract the juice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks followed by 8 months of maturation on the fine lees.

Toasted almonds, honeysuckle, and hints of passion fruit and lychee characterise the nose, while on the palate there is a vibrant, mouthwatering freshness, well-rounded texture, and medium body. The crisp, aromatic nature of this delicious white wine make it an excellent aperitif or accompaniment to fresh seafood, sushi, and Asian curries.
