The color of ripe raspberries leads to the fresh scent of sour cherry and plum. Added to the red fruit aromas is a wonderful bouquet of spice of white pepper and anise, cinnamon and nutmeg. Well balanced with delicate acid and sugar and refined silky tannins. Enjoy the mouth filling flavors of chocolate and cherry, pomegranate and baking spice, with hints of rose petals and lavender sachets. This Impero Primitivo is a harmonious example of Southern Italian wine.
Ideally paired alongside grilled steak, this wine is also a great accompaniment to rich pasta dishes and homestyle stews.
This 100% Primitivo from the vineyard of Giuseppe Schiena, exemplifies the care and attention to detail the family run business adheres to. Hand harvested in early September, the grapes were de-stemmed and crushed, and left to macerate with the skin on for 12-15 days. Plenty of time for supple tannins and ample fruit flavor to develop the wine then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel. To soften the wine and impart the light notes of baking spices detected, the wine spent 2 months in American oak barriques. The resulting wine shows graceful balance of fruit flavor and silky smooth tannins. With previous vintages bringing home the gold medal from international competition at Germany’s “Mundus Vini,” expect the 2015 to carry on the legacy of award winning wines. Salut!
