Sassetti Livio Pertimali Colle Argento Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut

Montalcino is an unlikely place for producing white sparkling wine, and the Sassetti family have largely built their reputation on their excellent Brunello’s - however, in “Colle Argento” they have succeeded in creating a Prosecco of extraordinary poise. Grown on mixed soils of clay, sand and limestone in both Valdobbiadene DOCG and Veneto, this is a 100% Glera wine, with a naturally dry character.

The Sassetti’s have a long and respectable history in the Montalcino region, dating back to the foundation of the winery in 1935 - and even further. It has been and remains to be a family affair, with fourth-generation wine-maker Lorenzo, son of Livio, now at the helm.

The nose of this wine is fruit-dominated - sharp, citrus notes of grapefruit and orange peel are complemented by softer scents of apple and ripe pear. You can also discover floral hints of iris and acacia in its depths. The palate shows a tasteful balance of acidity and round texture, with a fine mousse. Strong notes of citrus and white-fleshed fruits persist from the nose and lead into a long, thirst-quenching finish. This is a fantastic wine to pair with seafood, salty cheeses and fruit salads, or to be simply enjoyed alone, as an aperitif.
