The San Leonardo estate has a long and fascinating history which includes its establishment by 13th century monks, supplying the Austrian court with wine in the 19th century, and the signing of the preliminary armistice which marked the end of the First World War in 1918. The current owner is Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga who heads up the estate along with his son Anselmo. The two have remained true to Carlo’s original vision of crafting French-inspired wines with light oak influence which offer incredible balance and elegance.

The Terre di San Leonardo is a classic Bordeaux-style blend of Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which are harvested at optimal ripeness. Following fermentation the majority of the wine is then aged in large Slavonian oak casks for 18 months with a smaller proportion aged in French oak barrels for at least 6 months.

The result is an exquisite red wine which bursts with vibrant aromas of ripe plums, sweet spices and licorice. On the palate the entry is smooth with plenty of rich berry flavours and hints of dried herbs. The medium body and bright acidity make this an excellent gastronomic wine which will complement fresh pasta served with a rich tomato sauce, grilled meats or charcuterie.
