Riglos winery was founded by Darío Werthein and Fabián Suffern, two good friends from Buenos Aires with a vision to make top quality wines in Gualtallary in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. At the time this sub-region was virgin territory for winemaking so the duo choose to name their visionary new venture after the town where their families first settled when they emigrated to Argentina in the early 20th century.
The wines for this magnificent wine are sourced from selected vineyards planted on sandy and loam soils on their Finca Las Divas property which sits at 1350 metres above sea level. Here the high altitude means sunny summer days followed by cooler nights which helps to preserve aromatics and freshness in the grapes while ensuring optimum ripeness. Once in the winery the grapes are vinified and the young wine aged in French oak barrels and casks for 18 months.
On the nose there are intense cassis, ripe plum, violets and baking spice notes while the first sip reveals bold crushed berry flavours along with hints of dark chocolate and dried herbs. The robust flavour profile with full body and firm tannins makes this a great choice for further cellaring or enjoying now alongside hearty red meat dishes.
