Ridge Vineyards is best known for their Monte Bello Cabernet which is regarded as one of California’s finest wines. The wine shot to fame following the 1976 "Judgment of Paris" tasting where top French wines were tasted blind alongside Californian wines. The Monte Bello Cabernet was placed fifth in the competition, beating many top French red wines and proving the quality of California’s terroir and winemaking.

Fruit for the Ridge Estate Cabernet is sourced from the famous Monte Bello vineyard which was first planted in 1890 and boasts vines which are predominantly over 60 years old. Once in the winery the grapes are vinified and a barrel selection is made to decide which fruit is destined for which wine. The wines which require a bit more barrel ageing are kept for the Monte Bello while those which are ready for bottling are used to craft the Ridge Estate Cabernet.

Thanks to 18 months of barrel ageing, the Ridge Estate opens with enticing notes of baking spice, dark chocolate and coffee beans. The first sip reveals a full body, smooth tannins, and rich crushed berry flavours which linger long on the tongue. The bold flavour profile and firm structure will help this wine age gracefully if cellared over the next decade or so.
