This majestic red is the handiwork of master Italian winemaker Giuseppe Quintarelli who is revered all over the globe for his exceptional Amarone wines. Unlike many of his neighbours who switched to modern mass production techniques to make their wines, Giuseppe clung on to more traditional ways of winemaking such as manual harvesting and very long ageing periods in large Slavonian oak casks.
Quintarelli only releases their flagship Amarone in the very best years. In the years when they don’t make their Amarone, but the grapes are still considered to be great quality they are used to craft this powerful red wine. The method used to make Rosso del Beppi is the same as that used to create the Amarone, with the grapes dried over the winter until they become like raisins and have incredibly concentrated aromas and sweetness. The fruit is then fermented and aged in old Slavonian casks for at least seven years.
This long, slow approach to winemaking helps to create a dark and handsome full-bodied red wine which is bursting with luscious plums and berries, dried fruit and more delicate hints of dark chocolate and winter spice. A great wine to keep in the cellar for a couple more decades, although it can also be enjoyed now alongside hearty red meat dishes like beef stews, venison, or fresh parpadelle served with a wild boar ragu.
