Barolo
Prunotto Barolo 2018
Drink today or cellar for up to 20 years. Decant before drinking.
Producing wine for more than a century, Prunotto is one of Northern Italy’s premier wineries. Nestled in Alba, Piemonte in the heart of the Langhe, halfway between Barbaresco and Barolo, the Prunotto vineyards stretch throughout Langhe and Roero. Founded in 1905 as a winemaking co-op, difficulties struck following World War I and Alfred Prunotto and his wife Luigina took over the co-op giving it their family name and bringing the winery to International recognition. Today, Pronutto is under the direction of the Antinori family who work to maintain the history, character and elegance of the winery and its wines.
This Prunotto Barolo is a stunner. Made from 100% Nebbiolo and aged for at least 18 months in oak barrels of varying capacities, the nose sings of bright cherry, strawberry, red licorice and lavender on the first whiff followed by mushroom, exotic spices and a touch of earthiness. On the palate the red fruits pop as leather, tobacco and a hint of oak give way to a long, satisfying finish. The acidity is bright and punchy balancing the tannins high fruit tone and the chalky tannins. Enjoy with mature cheeses, red pasta dishes, lamb, margherita pizza and cured meats.
