Poggio al Tesoro is a winery run by the Allegrini family, who expanded from their home estate in Valpolicella to a place by the seaside, in the beautiful Tuscan terroir of Bolgheri. The family’s endeavours are currently spearheaded by Marilisa, also known as “Lady Amarone”, who is considered to be one of the most important and renowned producers in the entire country.

It was Marilisa’s late brother, Walter, who first fell in love with the ocean-influenced soils of Bolgheri. “Il Seggio” is a seamless representation of the appellation, named for the mineral-rich river that runs through most of Castagneto Carducci.

It is created in rule-bending Super Tuscan style, with 40% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Petit Verdot. It is a vivid ruby red in the glass, exhibiting scents of fresh plum and red hedgerow berries, which mingle with hints of baking spice and minerality. On the palate, Il Seggio is smooth and elegant, coating the tongue in notes of red berries, cassis, liquorice, oak and leather. It has a precise yet approachable character - a great red wine for any occasion. Think about pairing it with classic Italian dishes such as ossobuco, smoked meats, Parmesan or Pecorino cheese.
