Other Red Blends
Pelter Cabernet Shiraz 2019
Drink now or cellar for up to 9 years. No need to decant before serving.
Founded by Tal Pelter in 2005, Pelter winery is located in Ein Zivan which is an Israeli kibbutz in the Golan Heights. This area offers excellent winemaking conditions thanks to the dry Mediterranean climate, hot sunny days, basalt soils, and high altitude. Tal sources most of his fruit from the northern Golan with the remainder coming from the Jerusalem Hills and the Upper Galilee.
This powerful red blend is made from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Shiraz grapes. Part of the fruit comes from the winery’s hilly Haruach Vineyard in the Golan Heights which sits at 1100 metres above sea level, with the remainder coming from Ramot Naftali in the Upper Galilee which is planted on distinctive terra rossa or iron-rich red soils.
The grapes are carefully harvested by hand at night to preserve freshness and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 20 months. Bursting with ripe cherries, plums and dark berries, this is a robust and full-bodied red with plenty of firm tannins and a well-built structure. The long finish, bold dark fruit flavours and balanced profile make this a great match for hearty red meat dishes. It can also be kept in the cellar for another decade or so where it will continue to develop and evolve.
