Nk’Mip Cellars is unique in North America as the only winery to be run and owned by Indigenous peoples. The name “Nk’Mip” translates into English as “bottomland”, a reference to the fact that the estate is located at the southern end of the Osoyoos Indian Reserve. The estate specialises in producing delicious red wines from classic French varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Thanks to the arid, sunny conditions in this part of the Okanagan Valley, their grapes achieve optimal ripeness while retaining subtle aromatics and balancing freshness. Named after the mythical Thunderbird, the fruit for this wine are sourced from several blocks on the estate which are planted with Syrah, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

Each lot is vinified separately to give the winemakers maximum control over the blend. After each lot has been aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months the winemaking team then selects the best components to create the final cuvee. The result is a delicious and easy-drinking wine which is bursting with ripe blueberries, cassis and blackberries as well as black pepper, anise, dark chocolate and tobacco leaf.
