Other White Wine
Mustiguillo Finca Calvestra 2019
Cellar for up to 5 years. Serve well chilled.
Established by the Sarrion-Martinez family in 1972, Bodega Mustiguillo occupies a stunning setting beneath the Sierra del Negrete mountains in the Requena-Utiel region of southeastern Spain. Over the decades they have become a leading producer of the local Bobal grape, helping to elevate it from usage in mass produced wines to a fine wine in its own right.
In recent years they have also begun pioneering work on their Finca Calvestra estate where the alluvial soils and 900 metres of altitude are ideal for white winemaking. This stunning white is made from the local 100% Merseguera grape which is little-known outside of the region. All of the fruit comes from a single vineyard which is farmed organically to ensure top quality.
Once the fruit arrives in the vineyard it is fermented in neutral tanks using wild yeasts and then matured in acacia oak casks for 9-11 months. This enhances the fine texture of the Merseguera grape and adds subtle hints of toast and spice to the naturally fresh and crisp varietal character. It's the perfect wine to serve to white wine lovers looking to try something new and exciting, and pairs perfectly with sushi, grilled fish, fresh seafood, most cheeses and leafy summer salads.
