Pinot Noir
Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2019
Drink now or cellar for up to 9 years. No need to decant before serving.
The Margaret River region is today considered one of Australia’s top areas for premium winemaking, and one of the early pioneers working here has been Moss Wood which was founded in 1969. For over four decades the winery has been run by Clare & Keith Mugford who have pursued a philosophy of showcasing the region’s stunning maritime climate. Their powerful wines which age extremely well and have a cult following in Australia and beyond.
The Mugfords have been growing Pinot Noir on the estate for decades, and this wine expresses the true beauty of the Wilyabrup area where the winery is based in the northern part of Margaret River. The grapes are all harvested by hand to ensure optimal quality before undergoing sorting, destemming and maceration. Following fermentation in stainless steel tanks the young wine is transferred to oak barrels where it matures for 19 months before bottling.
The result is a richly-flavoured Pinot Noir with intense berry notes and a medium body carefully balanced by a bright streak of acidity and a pure, clean finish. On the nose there are uplifting notes of sour cherries, strawberry jam, roses and dried herbs while the first sip reveals dense wild berries, cassis and gentle hints of toasty oak and spice.
