Located in Radda, in the heart of the Chianti hills, at 425 meters above sea level, Montevertine was purchased in 1967 by the industrialist Sergio Manetti, initially as a holiday home. Here Manetti planted two hectares of vineyard to produce wine for himself and his friends. But after the success of his first harvest, he decided to invest in new vineyards and cellars and focus on wine production. The company is today managed by Sergio's son, Martino Manetti with the collaboration of Bruno Bini, and Giulio Gambelli.
The wine is made of Sangiovese grapes with small additions of Canaiolo and Colorino. The grapes come from young vineyards located at altitudes between 400 and 600 meters, planted on composite soils of clay, sand, silt, marl, and limestone. After fermentation in concrete tanks, the finished wine matures for a year in Slavonian oak barrels and then in concrete and in bottles for at least three months.
Montevertine Pian del Ciampolo has a lively and brilliant color with ruby red tones. On the nose, the wine reveals a broad bouquet with fruity aromas of wild strawberry and cherry, followed by floral and spicy hints and some herbaceous nuances. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, full-bodied and tasty. The tannins are dense and well-integrated. The finish is long and recalls fruity notes. It is the perfect wine with pasta with ragu.
