This is a juicy, full-bodied Pinot Noir, packed with scents of red currants, raspberries, and strawberries, with an underpinning of forest floor and slate minerality. The fruits were sourced from the Côte d’Or, Burgundy’s most famous region, which rests on a long bedrock of limestone.
The first wines under the Meo-Camuzet name were released in 1983, though both of these intertwined families have been working in Burgundian vineyards and cellars for centuries. Today, it is run by Jean-Nicolas Meo and his wife Nathalie, who tend to the estate-owned vineyards. However, as much of the land in Burgundy is already accounted for, they also established a négoce company in the 2000s, allowing them to purchase grapes directly from growers and create a more accessible range of wines.
On the palate, this is a smooth and easy drinking Pinot Noir, led by flavours of red fruit and warm earth. You can find a strong vein of acid and finely grained tannins, leading into a rustic, herby finish. The wine was aged for at least a year in oak, followed by 3 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. It will make an excellent partner for mushroom risotto, red meat stew, or pungent cheeses, soft or hard.
