Renowned for its production of Etna white wines, the Maugeri winery is a young Sicilian company located in the municipality of Milo, in the province of Catania. The estate's vineyards, recovered and replanted from old family plots, extend over approximately 7 hectares and are spread across the eastern slopes of Etna, on steep terraces bordered by dry stone walls.
Maugeri's Etna Rosato is made with Nerello Mascalese grapes harvested from the terraced bush-trained vineyards of Contrada Volpare. Here, the altitude (approximately 700 meters above sea level) and sandy volcanic soils guarantee the ideal conditions for the pure aromatic expression of this grape variety. After manual harvesting and fermentation (half in stainless steel and half in wood), the wine rests on its lees for four months.
In the glass, the wine reveals a splendid coral pink color with beautiful amber highlights. Its aromatic profile is fragrant and lively, with notes of wild strawberries, raspberries, and currants, alternating with floral hints of red citrus and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is juicy and fresh, with a distinctive mineral note brought by the volcanic soil. The finish is long and pleasantly citrusy. When paired with food, it is extremely versatile: it pairs well with cured meats, pasta with cherry tomatoes, grilled shrimp, grilled white meat with herbs, or vegetarian appetizers.
