Dark, garnet red colour with a sophisticated, spicy nose drawing forth an elegant blend of cedar, smoke, red berries, chocolate and cigar. Lush, floral flavours of ripe red fruits and plump black cherry, underscored by mineral elements, licorice spice and smoked orange rind. A youthful wine with rich textures, it offers round, classy palate with an enjoyable acidity and depth of character, revealing a taste of dried herb that is both elegant and lively. A lingering finishes leaves long, sustained and nuanced notes of rose and cassis.

The Dalmau emerges from Canajas, an exquisite vineyard from Marques de Murrieta’s 300-hectare Ygay Estate which is situated 420 meters above sea levels, where 50+ year old vines bask in the sun and yield a notably limited production to maintain an exceptional level of varietal quality control. The varietals are fermented separately, slowly, in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and the aging in French oak barriques are all part of the craft of this delectable wine, which looks forward to the future more than most of the other Murrieta offerings. This wine is an elegant and welcome indication of the modern direction that this estate is embracing, while firmly rooted in tradition and the land from which it emerged.

This modern wine delivers a focus and intensity that is to be expected of Murrieta, but there is also a freshness here that is equally enjoyable. Drink now, well decanted, or until ten years past its vintage. Veal, other red meats or roasts along with soft, ripe cheeses are always a good pairing choice for this Dalmau.
