This dark and handsome Spanish Cabernet is made with grapes sourced from the oldest part of the renowned Dominio de Valdepusa vineyard which was planted back in the 1970s by visionary owner Carlos Falcó. These were the first Cabernet Sauvignon vines to be planted in the Castilla-La Mancha region and, coupled with Carlos’ innovative introduction of drip irrigation and night harvesting around the same time, this groundbreaking plot cemented Carlos’ reputation as one of Spain’s finest producers.

As well as world-class winemaking skill and techniques, the Marques de Grinon estate also benefits from some of the best sites for growing grapes. The Dominio de Valdepusa vineyard where this wine is born was the first site in Spain to be awarded the title D.O. de Pago in 2003 in recognition of its exceptional terroir. Here a combination of pure limestone soils similar to those found in Burgundy and hot summers tempered with cooler nights helps to craft elegant wines which are bold and intensely flavourful while remaining balanced thanks to the refreshing acidity levels.

On the nose this unique Cabernet offers distinctive notes of raspberry jam, red currants, dried herbs which carry onto the palate as well as undertones of cinnamon and smoky tobacco from the 12 to 15 months of ageing in French oak barrels. The first sip is well-rounded and incredibly smooth with ripe tannins and a solid structure which would make this a great match for hearty meat stews or a prime steak.
