Domaine Marc Colin et Fils spans a humble 12 hectares in Burgundy’s scenic, vineyard-dotted interior. It was founded in the 1970s by Marc Colin himself and remains a family winery to this day, owned and operated by Marc’s two children, Caroline and Damien, who create a timeless range of Burgundy wines.
Santenay is known for its supple, deeply coloured reds and this Pinot Noir is no exception. It is a vivid ruby red in the glass, and opens with a fruit-forward nose, exhibiting scents of ripe plum, blueberry, and pomegranate, with floral notes of rose petals and hibiscus. The grapes were sourced from old vines in limestone-rich soil, planted as far back as 1910. Typical of the terroir, this Santenay also shows a sharp mineral edge.
On the palate, this wine manages to tread a careful balance between ethereal and concentrated. It shows notes of red currant, dried mushrooms, warm soil, raspberry, and wet stone minerality. Before release, the wine spent 15 months ageing in oak barrels - the tannins are well-integrated and finely grained. Capable of ageing for upwards of a decade in a cellar. Enjoy it alongside beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto, or a pungent cheese.
