Domaine Marc Colin et Fils is a family endeavour, and one of the Côte de Beaune’s stalwart wineries. It was established in the 1970s by Marc Colin, but as a whole, the Colin family have a wine-making history going back a century. Now the estate is in the safe hands of Marc’s children, Caroline and Damien.
The domaine harvests grapes from 12 hectares of land, spread across a mixture of Grand and Premier Crus in the Côte de Beaune. “Les Chenevottes” sits at the bottom of the Mont-Rachet hill. It benefits from excellent drainage and long, sunny days, allowing vines to form delicious grapes with brilliant complexity.
This is a characterful wine, thick, intensely flavourful, and packed with minerality. Immediately after uncorking, you’ll discover an intoxicating bouquet of yellow apples, juicy white peach, citrus zest and verdant herbs. With some ageing, the fruit aromas will ripen and scents of honey may begin to appear. The fruit notes continue to the palate, where you will discover a fleshy body balanced by crisp and lively acidity. Despite its large size, the “Les Chenevottes” vineyard is criminally underrated and well worth discovering. Think about matching this wine with a flavourful dish, such as pork with applesauce, or crispy roast chicken.
