This delicate rosé is crafted from the Mourvedre grape which is widely used in the delicious rosé wines made in the South of France. The variety is perfectly suited for Elgin’s cool climate where the conditions help to showcase Mourvedre’s aromatics and intense freshness. To capture the mouthwatering acidity naturally found in the grapes they are picked in the early morning and whole bunch pressing is carried out to add extra complexity to the wine.
Following the fermentation the wine is kept on the lees for 4 months which helps to add body without overwhelming the fresh fruity character. The result is a lively, light-bodied rosé wine with plenty of red cherry, strawberry, and pomegranate notes which linger long on the tongue. The pure, clean character make this an excellent partner for cheeses, charcuterie, and fresh pasta dishes.
Lothian Vineyards is run by the Wilson family who have been making wine on the Cape for three generations. Gavin and Ewen pursue a Burgundian approach to winemaking with a focus on purity of flavour and exceptional quality. Their winemaking expertise is supplemented by that of head winemaker Richard Kershaw who holds the much-coveted Master of Wine title and has decades of experience of making wine in South Africa.
