Barolo
Lo Zoccolaio Barolo Lo Zoccolaio 2018
Cellar for up to 13 years. Decant 1 hour before serving.
This boutique winery is set around a charming farmhouse on the Bricco del Barolo hill with 75 acres of vineyards in Barolo, Monforte, Novello and Verduno. Their striking labels are inspired by a great white poplar tree planted on the estate to give shade in the hot summers. As it grew the tree divided into two symmetrical trunks, taking the shape of the tree of life in Jewish and Indian tradition which represents the duality of good and evil.
This is their classic Barolo bottling crafted from three different vineyards located in Monforte d'Alba and Verduno. Grapes are carefully selected for quality and destemmed before pressing to moderate Nebbiolo’s naturally powerful tannins. The young wine matures in French oak barrels for 36 months followed by further ageing in the bottle.
The result is a rich, full-flavoured Barolo with enticing notes of bright berry fruit, dried herbs and savoury leather and smoked meat. There’s a generous full body on the palate, firm yet well-rounded tannins and a long finish with hints of tobacco leaf and spice. The powerful flavour profile makes it a great match for beef and game stews, venison steaks, or fresh pasta served with a hearty red meat ragu sauce.
