Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Vire Clesse 2018

The Lafon family are best known for Domaine des Comtes Lafon which produces exquisite Meursault, but in 1999 they purchased an estate in the Maconnais which they renamed Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon. Over the years the family have added prime parcels of vineyards to the domaine and today there are some 14 hectares as well as a contract to work prized vineyards in the Viré-Clessé belonging to Château de Viré.

The land is farmed both organically and biodynamically to produce the best quality fruit possible. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vines with an average age of 60 years planted on clay and limestone soils. Once in the winery the must is fermented with wild yeasts found naturally on the skins and then matured in a combination of 45 hectolitre casks and 500 litre barrels.

On the nose there are aromatic hints of honey, tropical fruit and white flowers while the palate is dominated by ripe peach, apricot and bright citrus notes. The medium body and smooth texture make it very easy to drink, especially alongside cheeses, roasted chicken or fish dishes served in a rich creamy sauce. Drink now or hold in the cellar for a few more years.
