La Ronciere was founded in 1949 by Don Fernando Orueta Ruiz de Eguiláz in Chile and in 2017 the company began its adventure at Idahue Estate. Due to climate change, this project has initiated the cultivation of grapes in the cooler coastal subregion of the Curico Valley called Licanten. The company focuses only on red varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Carignan, and Petit Verdot, with the aim of producing fresher, terroir-driven wines.
La Ronciere Licanten Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. The grapes, coming from vineyards grown on granite soils of colluvial origin, are selected and harvested manually. The final wine is then aged in first-use French oak barrels for 10 months before being bottled.
This wine has great aromatic intensity, with intense notes of black fruits such as plums and some hints of bitter chocolate and coffee. On the palate, it is bold and full-bodied. Its tannins are round, syrupy, and delicate and the long finish is reminiscent of chocolate. Perfect with grilled or smoked beef, or with venison, especially if served with a chocolate sauce.
