Located in the prestigious Greek wine region of Nemea in the Peloponnese, Ktima Papaioannou achieved fame thanks to Thanasis Papaioannou, one of the most important and pioneering figures of the modern Greek wine scene. The company, now led by Thanasis' son, extends over 57 hectares of organic vineyards and concentrates its production on native varieties produced in total respect of the terroir and the ancient local winemaking traditions.
This wine is made from Agiorgitiko grapes from selected vines in the Achladia vineyard. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 2 years in oak barrels and a further year in the bottle. The label represents the Lion of Nemea, an ancient creature of Greek legend, killed by Heracles.
Terroir Nemea wine is an intense and elegant red, characterized by a complex and broad aromatic profile with notes of red fruits and sweet spices, and hints of chocolate and coffee. On the palate, it is full and balanced and reveals a good concentration of fruit and a firm tannic backbone. It is a wine that can remain in the cellar for a couple of decades or be enjoyed now, paired with roast lamb or braised game.
