Founded by Thanasis Papaioannou’s grandfather, Ktima Papaioannou is located in the Nemea wine region. The company that cultivates about 57 hectares of organic vineyards is now led by Thanasis' son, George who, like his father once, carries on a production philosophy linked to indigenous vines and the importance of the terroir. Ktima Papaioannou produces Agiorgitiko, Roditis, and Assyrtiko, but also international vines such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot.
Ktima Papaioannou's Petit Verdot is quite a rare wine for the Greek wine scene and comes exclusively from the estate's organic vineyards. After a classic red vinification, the wine is aged for two years in oak barrels and then left to rest for another year in the bottle, before being released on the market.
Its color is intense ruby red. Its aromatic profile is complex with delicate aromas of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, plum, floral notes of violet, spicy aromas, and delicate nuances of chocolate. On the palate, the wine reveals an excellent structure, a great concentration of ripe fruit and firm tannins. It is an intense and voluminous wine with a persistent and slightly spicy aftertaste. Perfect with game ragu, rabbit cooked in wine, or aged cheeses.
