Saperavi
Koncho & Co Saperavi Qvevri 2019
Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant it but best to open it half an hour before service.
Led by the Konchoshvili family, the Georgian winery Koncho & Co is located in the Kvareli appellation of Kakheti in an area surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains that provide protection from rain and wind, generating an extremely favorable microclimate for quality viticulture. Here, the soil, rich in black schist, creates wines characterized by good structure and a marked minerality.
The grapes of the native Saperavi vine are harvested manually and vinified according to the traditional method in terracotta pots locally called Qvevri. Fermentation is spontaneous, without the addition of any additives, and the wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months
Koncho Saperavi Qvevri is a delicately structured and powerful wine with a lovely pomegranate color. On the nose, it is characterized by perfumes of aromatic herbs and fresh and ripe red berries, with the final addition of some gentle oaky notes. On the palate, this splendid wine is fruity and velvety with a marked freshness that makes it very drinkable and food-friendly. Try it with grilled meat (especially beef or lamb), with a tasty Bolognese lasagna or with Moussaka.
