Pinot Noir
Kellerei Bozen Blauburgunder 2019
Cellar for up to 5 years. No need to decant before serving.
Blauburgunder is the Austrian name for Pinot Noir which has its origins in the French region of Burgundy and has been grown in the mountainous Alto Adige for over a hundred years. The fruit used for this excellent Italian red come from the heart of South Tyrol on the slopes of the Renon mountain close to the Bolzano where the vineyards sit at 500-750 metres above sea level.
The grapes are carefully harvested in September and then fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve their freshness and varietal character. The young wine is then partially matured in wooden casks for a short time to add complexity and polish. The result is a lively medium bodied red with rich red fruit notes, smooth tannins and plenty of balancing acidity which makes it a great match for Italian charcuterie, game or roast beef.
Kellerei Bozen is a cooperative winery which unites some 224 local grape growing families who own 350 hectares of prime hillside and valley vineyards close to Bolzano. This mountainous setting is perfectly suited to producing light, spicy reds and elegant whites from traditional local grape varieties which have thrived here for centuries.
